Dr. Chris Cumberpatch is a self-employed archaeological consultant based in Sheffield. His principle areas of interest include later prehistoric, medieval, post medieval and recent pottery, archaeological ethics, social theory and its application to archaeology. He graduated from Sheffield University in 1981 and later studied for his PhD at the same university (1986 – 1991). Since 1991 he has worked extensively in north-east England, Europe and the Middle East.

His publications include:

• Not so much a pot, more a way of life (jointly edited with Paul Blinkhorn)
• Different Iron Ages (jointly edited with J.D. Hill)
• Excavations at 16 – 20 Church Street, Bawtry (jointly edited with J. Dunkley, I. Latham and R. Thorpe).

He is currently in the process of creating a regional type series for the medieval pottery of South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire, with funding from English Heritage.
